A Wellington bus company tests Brown Hydrogen device to cut emission by 80 percent

May 10, 2021
A Wellington bus company, Newland buses, is testing a cutting-edge device on its diesel engines that could significantly reduce emissions by up to 80 percent.

Transdev, the Wellington and Howick Mana Newlands Coach Services and Auckland Eastern Buses operator, is assessing a novel Australian fuel technology developed by HYDI Hydrogen on one of its current diesel buses.

The company operates bus services in Wellington on routes 52, 56, 57, 58, 60, and 60e, where passengers will not perceive any changes in the bus’s external appearance since the unit is directly connected to the engine.

Greg Pollock, Managing Director of Transdev NZ, believes a six-week trial will effectively demonstrate the fuel efficiency and emission reduction capabilities of the system in the unique conditions of Wellington.
